color sumi inks on unbleached rice paper. 12 x 18 in., 30 x 46 cm.
Done on unbleached rice paper, something I was experimenting with at that time. It’s a parchment with a mat finish which suits and enhances the mood of this picture well. It is impressive that after all these years the paint remains just as fresh as when it was first painted.
The scene is inspired by common roadside village scenes in rural indonesia.
My paintings in that period were done free hand, without preliminary sketches nor any working lines on the paper. This is paint applied directly on a blank page.
The close up picture is of higher resolution to be able to get a better feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there’s the recent photoshoot.
