In a SE gale the anchorage in the shallow sandy inlet, Village Bay at St Kilda is impossible and small vessels are recommended to go round to Glen Bay (sometimes known as North Bay where a modest degree of shelter can be obtained. It is an anchorage I knew well during much of the 1980s as I spent both summer and autumn fishing crab and lobster among the island group.
