This picture in painted from a ridge of high ground over looking the village of Lyndhurst. Bolton Bench is a small hill topped with yew trees surround by a bench, situated between the ridge and Lyndhurst. This is a popular spot for visitors to see the New Forest ponies that graze the open forest.
Lyndhurst is a busy place but walk a little way along the Matley ridge into the forest and it becomes a peaceful scene. This is why I often paint from this high ground looking back toward Lyndhurst with its church spire.
