Near the ancient hillfort of Woodbury Castle is a well-known Devon viewpoint, where you look down on the river Exe and the Haldon Hills beyond. I'm very fond of it, having lived nearby and cycled across the commons to work many years ago....
The beauty of pastels is the wide range of colours available, plus the necessity to work sketch-like, so the beauty of the scene is created by the right placement of lines and colours, without getting distracted by too much detail. This preserves the spontaneity that I aim for in my work.
