To my great regret, I have sinned, as we all have. No matter how great is my remorse, I can’t redeem my sins or repair the harm I’ve caused to others. Only God can do that, and this painting celebrates the victory Jesus won on the Cross, a victory He graciously shares with all who believe in Him. No matter what we’ve done, our sins are never beyond the reach of God’s love and mercy. Only God can heal and transform us, individually and as a society, so that we can welcome a future of hope, peace and joy, knowing that problems or obstacles will no longer overwhelm us, since we draw strength from His presence, His grace and His wisdom. This painting began as a collage of watercolor pieces, which were cut and arranged--along with Scripture passages from the Old and New Testaments (Hebrews, Isaiah, Romans, Galatians and 1 John)—all of which were mounted on three canvas panels joined in the shape of a Cross. The collage was then over-painted in oils and cold wax, along with gold foil accents. For photography purposes, the void areas, which are outside the image area within the Cross, is shown as a neutral, gray area. But, of course, the painting itself hangs in the shape of a Cross. The canvas of the upper portion is 10” wide by 8” high. The horizontal, center section is 30” wide by 10” high. And the bottom portion is a 10” square, so the overall dimensions are 30” wide x 28” high. All sections are permanently joined, and hanging hardware is already installed. The painting has been given a satin varnish for protection.
