This piece is one of a collection of works inspired by an ongoing investigation enquiring into the vulnerability that often appears within the lives of performing artists. This particular painting was influenced by the life, career and in particular the writings of the dancer Vaslav Nijinsky from his diary, (The Diary of Vaslav Nijinsky) penned at a particularly troublesome time in the dancers life. The diary recorded a six week period in early 1919 of the life of Nijinsky when he was loosing touch with reality. This painting aims to express the vulnerability of this remarkable dancer and also demonstrate his power and ability as one of the greatest dancers of our time.
