Here is my very large, very proud Rooster! It's the year of the Rooster this year so I thought I would go for a large one! It took quite some time to make this guy but it was really great fun and I think the result is fun! He would certainly make a statement in any house!
The collage is made on heavy cotton, almost like canvas, which has been backed with a heavy white cotton.
The Rooster has been built up of literally hundreds and hundreds of little tiny bits of fabric to create a feather effect. I have used typical "chicken" colours, white, black wool, beige corduroy, and beige linen. All the little bits overlap so it really does look like feathers. The orange bits on his face are an orange felted wool so looks really rich and tangible and the beak is black wool too. The tail feathers are mainly made of black wool and I have also used gouache to give a further dimension to the feathers. The Rooster is standing in the leaftovers of his breakfast, all sorts of lettuce bits and grains and such.
It has a channel at the top with a dowel with hooks so it is ready to hang. Alternatively it could be framed.
The Rooster is hanging in one of the bedrooms here at our B&B and I have taken some photos in the room so you can get a perspective. He is really big as you can see from the dimensions but you might not realise from the images just how impressive he is.
The collage is signed on the front.
