The title is VERDANT, this came out of studying some images I'd taken when walking on the downs in lockdown, together with the emotion of spring in the air, when everything begins again, all fresh and green. This year of course, there is also hope for the freedom from lockdown. Roughly translated Verdant means green with grass or other rich vegetation. Green is a calming colour, also known to represent tranquillity, good luck, and good health.

The Painting
I mixed my colours from memory, aiming for a combination that would simply evoke the coast. The random shapes came out of observation on my walk.
I rarely use tape or formers to create my shapes, these are created freehand. A particular type of brush, the consistency of the oil paint, and my trained hand all aid the process.
The theory and history of colour fascinates me and engulfs my work. Simultaneous contrasts help each colour sing. I use wonderful colours, either mixed by hand or the intense pigments of quality paints such as Gamblin or Michael Harding. My paintings speak to me as I create, I take my time, it takes the lead!
