Original artwork description:

Painted from the edge of Piazza San Marco, looking over the lagoon. I forgot my water bottle, so I painted it with lagoon water - it seems to have survived..This is one of three watercolours painted at the same time, which form a continuous panorama leftwards from from San Giorgio, the Lido and towards San Servolo. Turner in his studies of Venice used fluid pools of colour floating over the paper to suggest light and atmosphere, and I am attempting to do something similar here.

Materials used:

Watercolour on Saunders watercolour paper
