Original artwork description:

This piece captures the transformation of both an under-appreciated neighborhood and my own unexpected journey.

It began with a road trip aimed for San Francisco, but a spontaneous 'OK' detoured my path straight to the heart of Venice. Back in 2001, Venice was still undiscovered. Abbot Kinney was just a whisper of its future self with not much more than a coffee shop and a liquor store. Every other occupied building was a mystery not open to the public.

This painting is my nod to those transformative days—riding my bike to the farmers market, tasting saltwater and pomelos, and forging friendships in the most unexpected places. One vivid memory is when a pre-fame Zach Galifianakis crashed my party. Fresh from mowing his lawn, he walked in covered in grass blades, casually holding his cat, Stevens.

‘Venice’ is a visual swath of personal history, the thrill of youthful freedom, and a celebration of life's serendipitous moments. For those who collectors who thrive on the unexpected, who love stories woven into their spaces, this piece promises to bring a touch of the wild, the wacky, and the wonderfully reckless into your home.

Materials used:

acrylic, spray paint, collage
