The painting is inspired by the famous painting by Guido Cagnacci, Italian painter (1601 - 1663 ).
THE DEATH OF CLEOPATRA from 1660. She committed suicide with the poison of an asp to escape the shame of being transferred to Rome as a prisoner of war. Sleepy torpor and delirium of the senses. Erotically charged and emotionally involving action with an absolutely singular sensuality.
Eros and Thanatos, life drive and death drive. I pursue my theme in dialogue with the old masters and mass culture. Combining Pop strategies and suggestions with the art of the past. A bridge between the ancient and the contemporary, drawing on references inspired by the history of art, to propose new meanings for the viewer.
