One afternoon in London, the doors of the tube opened and no-one came out. No-one got on the train either- we were in the middle of the afternoon and the station was eerily empty. The train stood still as the platform stretched out, deserted, in front of us. For a few moments, it felt like time stood still. Seconds later, the train was gone.
In this print, I have recreated this suspended moment, by offsetting several photos I snatched of the empty platform. The vanishing points on each image overlap, but the rest of the photos do not. The distortion creates a vertiginous effect, opposing the geometry and emptiness of the vacant platform, to the impression of movement of the train, the layers of colours gliding in front of each other.
