The matrix is hand-engraved from an original drawing and hand-printed without a press: each print is therefore unique and may differ slightly from the photo. This gives the print originality, making it absolutely unique. Each print is numbered, signed and sealed with my stamp-chomp

Traveling, photographing striking details. And then engraving them. This is my way of impressing moments in memory. This handmade linocut print represents the Immacolata fountain (also called Fonte Grossa) in Frosolone (IS), in Molise.
This fountain is characterized by the presence of an apotropaic mask, with the function of warding off or canceling an evil magical influence.
When these masks were placed on fountains, they were loaded with additional symbolic meanings: in addition to warding off bad luck, they purified the water that passed through them to escape. It was believed, in fact, that the water, since it came from the bowels of the earth, was contaminated by the underworld, a contamination that was cancelled thanks to the saving passage of the water through the masks that cancelled any evil influence.

Materials used:

recycled paper, ink
