Original artwork description:

Some years ago whilst on a training dive in a flooded quarry I was slowly returning to the surface when I experienced a strange but wonderful feeling of literal enlightenment. SCUBA diving training involves reaching certain goals for depth and endurance. That particular day I and my buddy had been instructed to visit the deepest point at 35 metres where the light levels are low. As we slowly returned to the surface it got lighter and lighter and we were cocooned in a maelstrom of bubbles enhancing and reflecting the ever increasing shafts of sunlight. It was this experience that came to mind when I decided how to enhance the naturally distorted piece of plum (greengage) that had lain undisturbed for 3 years. The work is mostly inspired by the European otter but could also be described as seal-like.

Materials used:

Plum wood, shellac sealer
