Original artwork description:

I love to paint still life and wanted to find a way to create a more contemporary feel to a traditional subject.

I startedwith a thin layer of acrylic paint applied loosely, creating areas of light and dark. Once dry the oil paint has been applied in a further two layers, using a combination of brush, palette knife and brayer (roller).

The end result is a small series of expressive paintings bordering on the abstract, but which retain elements of a more traditional style in the painting of the objects. In addition the still life elements are compositionally presented in unexpected places within the painting.
