Small projects in A4 size are great to work out ideas, and just as a way of staying agile with colour and paper. The lines are fluid, the colours simple, spontaneous and expressive. The challenge is to put movement into the painting with colour and ‘splash’. The simpler result can be quite refreshing. This design is taken randomly from my pile of pencil & graphite sketches & exercises. The graphite sketch is also with me, originally done at a clinic waiting room somewhere…
The close up picture gives a better sense of the paint, paper and the brush stroke. Then there’s the work in progress, and the sketch which served as the inspiration for this work.
