Our environment is populated by an incredible number (around 298,000 at the last estimate, according to figures from the Census of Marine Life, CoML, in 2011) of species of flora and fauna and surrounds us to the point we perhaps become indifferent to that diversity.

Because of that indifference and the sheer volume of Plantae that can exist in a relatively confined space, this small body of work seeks to explore this idea visually. Working within the confines of a metre by a metre by a metre of natural space, six base photographs were made within the ‘cube’ and then layered together to create six different viewpoints.

Each of the base photographs is present in each of the six final pictures. The layering and compacting of all six pictures hints at the volume and density of flora that can surround us, and perhaps, allows us to rethink and thus reset our unwitting, unthinking acceptance of our environment.

Each print is 750mm x 750mm (29.5 x 29.5 ins.), signed and numbered on the front and annotated on the reverse as well as accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Limited to an edition of 20 prints per photograph.
Each image is displayed as a final print including the border.

Materials used:

Canson Baryta Photographique 310 gsm paper (complies to ISO 9706 for longevity and archival permanence)
