This painting was initially intended as an abstracted aerial view of tourist boats and some elements of that design are visible. The background of grey, blue and white (dribbled from the paint can) was added first and allowed to dry. Bright colours used on the tourist boats were added directly to the canvas and then spread with a long piece of wood across the painting. This method was used by Gerhard Richter, one of my favourite abstract painters. The lower margin was spread vertically with a large palette knife. Finally, whilst the paint was wet, areas were sponged off to reveal the background grey, pale blue and white.
It is a dynamic piece, that would brighten and enliven any room. It is ready to hang.
Acrylic paint was added using brushes, palette knifes and by dribbling from a container. A long piece of wood was used to spread the paint. A sponge was used to remove selected areas of wet paint.
