Original artwork description:

It was fun to get back to an image I have done several time before, but this time, giving it a bit of a twist and some serious pops of color!

The original version I did some years ago while living in COLLIOURE, France. A family member whose home in California had been the Family gathering place for many years, was moving. This fact made me ponder The notion of “Home”, and what defines that. I reflected on Van Gogh’s “Room at Arles”; a favorite painting of mine. Van Gogh had taken merely a humble room in a house, in Arles, yet he painted that room with a palpable love conveying a sense of it being “Home” to him. So I originally depicted a chair in the picture, that I had in my home in Collioure, very similar to the chair depicted in his room at Arles. Another favorite French painter of mine, Raoul Dufy, had lived once in Collioure, so I added a Table of a flowers closely resembling one depicted by Dufy. In this new version of the painting, I loosely referenced Menton- where I currently live in France- seen from the window. The note on the table, reflects the first words to “You Are My Sunshine”. Picking and putting flowers around the rooms in my California Home, has been a daily habit, these past couple of months, to keep my spirits up. Thus; the emphasis on flowers in this piece. The canvas is painted around the edges so it can be hung unframed.
