This is one in my series of muted monochromatic coastal abstract artworks. I used powerful brush strokes, as I do in all my paintings, in order to create a lasting visual impression.
Art buyers (and art lovers) will see influences to prominent 19th Century Artists such as Pissarro and Klimt. I am inspired by the motion of prominent 20th century abstract Tachisme artists such as Jean-Paul Riopelle, Wols, Jean Dubuffet, Pierre Soulages. In addition, I love the works of Dutch Modernist painters Leo Gestel, Jan Altink and Jan Toorop- On to more a contemporary artist influence, being Chuck Close. I offer homage to their artistic vision through my own art.
My work has been described as: 'Tumbling underneath waves amidst effervescent aquatones, Margaret's compositions are fresh and original expressions of the colors and patterns of water in motion. The artist uses her imagination to distill the kinetic essence of something never at rest.Irregular shapes of green and blue cover the canvas, reminiscent of the brilliant marine hues that convey water in 19th century Japanese woodblock prints. Close inspection reveals rough, textured surfaces from the thick application of media on linen, including oil, acrylic and oil pastel, reiterating the earthly and organic nature of her subject.'
