I am a huge fan of the aerial view in general, and tend to use it quite a bit in my still life studies. When viewing a subject from the top angle, the lengths get shortened giving into many drawing challenges. I painted this image for an online challenge. The unique angle of the people combined with interesting shadows made for an inspiring reference and I just had to give it a shot. What at first appears to be a mundane scene on a weekday morning, suddenly transforms into something dramatic because of the light and shadows. That to be is most inspiring as an artist!
This original painting is done on stretched canvas. The sides are painted black so that it can be displayed without a frame.
gesso, acrylic paints, varnish
