"TWO WARRIORS OF RAJPUTANA"
4 x 6 inches original Linocut print on archival Canson paper
Very limited edition of 10 prints.
Hand-drawn, hand-carved, hand-pulled

THE STORY
During a recent trip to Udaipur, an erstwhile major kingdom within Rajasthan, I was struck by the vivid folklore around the legendary companionship between the famous warrior Maharana Pratap and his loyal and equally brave war-horse Chetak. There are several legends surrounding them, and hence numerous artwork inspired by their stories. Udaipur is famous for its traditional Mughal-style miniature paintings, which is one of the inspiring forces behind my 4x6" artwork. I was struck by the elephant-head-shaped war gear worn by the horse Chetak in many several representations, including a life-like model displayed in the royal museum at Udaipur, and this has resulted in adding a dramatic element to my linocut!
THE PROCESS
Hand-drawn, hand-carved, and hand-pulled, this work has been created with a single block of linoleum, using the reduction process (one colour after the other printed from the same block with a stage of further carving in between).
