Artwork description:

This is a work which I made quite a few years back. I have always had a fascination and slight obsession with skylines. The shapes of rooftops and chimneys against the sky have a somewhat poetic quality to me, maybe a sentimental significance. When I played out in the back streets in my younger years I would find rich poetry in this commonplace subject matter against the ever changing skies and would find myself drawn to these views, clicking photos of them in my mind (long before the mobile phones of today!).

In this work the rooftops take on an almost abstract design, pushing out from the foreground toward the curving chimneys and pipes. The whole work is defined by wide well-bitten lines and rich, dark tonal work that help create a feeling of twilight and darkness approaching. These dark areas contrast dramatically against the areas that have been stopped out on the plate using bitumen varnish, where the colour of the paper comes through.

This is an original etching and aquatint print pulled from a zinc plate and printed on top quality somerset printmaking paper.

Your print will come wrapped in protective tissue paper to reach you in the best condition.

If you have any questions relating to the work before purchase please don't hesitate to ask me.

Materials used:

zinc plate, intaglio printing ink, paper
