“Twilight Beach” is a shaped acrylic painting on plywood panels 110cms wide and 100cms height (see pictures). The painting takes its inspiration from the Sefton coastline at a time in July when we were experiencing very hot weather in Southport. Living on the coast I get to see and enjoy many dramatic skies daily. I’ve not really been interested in replicating the appearance of ‘skies’ in paintings. I’ve always thought photography was the best medium to capture the drama of a moment and have never really seen the point in making a painting that replicates a photograph. “Twilight Beach” is a painting inspired by the beach / sky twilight photographs taken by Aly Linaker and the dawn coastline photographs of Sharon Barnes. See additional pictures. My interest in the photographs is indeed the drama of colour and distinction of light and shadow. The painting is a gestural and expressive interpretation. I always reference the Fauvist artists Matisse, Vlaminck and Derain and the Impressionists, Monet, Pissarro and Vuillard together with modernists Gillian Ayres, Barbara Rae, Howard Hodgkin and Patrick Heron. The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £75
