Original artwork description:

Today, in postmodern times mixing styles and techniques that traditionally don’t intersect, two visual cultures remain isolated: the culture of reproduction of “old maters” and the Photoshop culture. Their ambitions run in opposite directions: the one makes visible the defect and turns it into a style and the other one erases the defect, thus creating a “degree zero” of style. The impulses of the two cultures can never meet: the spectacular vs. the efficient.
It was my ambition to put these two different cultures together. I digitally deformed copies of paintings, I printed them on canvas and pained over them with oil. This way the technique of the old masters was filtrated through Photoshop. Then, above the “degree zero” of expression I superimposed a style foreign to them – my own. I put a digital frame-capsule, the aim of which was to strengthen the illusion of the transformation of a traditional artistic universe into another one. I felt challenged by the question of what the result of this two-step procedure would be – collage, intertwining or the annihilation of visual cultures.
