This original beech wood sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the skillful Bulgarian contemporary sculptor Nikolay Martinov, deeply inspired by postmodernism, geometric abstraction and algorithmic 3D forms. It uses a visual language of shape, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Hand carved in one solid piece of beech wood, it is one extraordinary woodcarving masterpiece and exquisite home décor.
Nikolay Martinov’s work encompasses many contemporary art styles with the act of minimal drawing being key to his exploration of form and sculptural composition. Mining a space between figuration and abstraction, the artist consistently returns to nature as a point of departure, exploring algorithmic forms and urban shapes as a metaphor for transformation.
