A charcoal piece completed before a commissioned oil painting. I always like to begin by drawing in charcoals. It helps me to understand the tonal qualities of a view before I attempt to paint it.
Trebah gardens is a beautiful place, filled with all kinds of tropical plants and sculptures. At the bottom of the garden walk is a small pond with a 'monet-esque' bridge surrounded by lush greens and brilliant hues of orange in the autumn months.
Part of a series of sights I have documented around the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall.
Charcoal, paper, fixative.
