The towers, these towers, are representative of my city, San Gimignano, but they can certainly symbolize any modern city that has made verticality its main dimension. From any point of view, they are able to project you upwards, they are cyclopean constructions, beautiful in their stone structure and, nevertheless, imposing and loaded with gravity, in some ways threatening. In this painting I have depicted them immersed in the rosy afternoon light, surrounded by houses and vegetation that I wanted to make with collages of various materials to accentuate the passages of light between the terracotta of the buildings and the leaves of the lime trees and cypresses.
The towers are painted on the gold background in the manner of medieval masters.
Painted on two framed plywood board
wood, plywood, gesso, acrylic paint, paper, fabric, laces
