Third in the series of paintings of London completes this London triptych
I love the London skyline from my time living in Greenwich and travelling into the Strand everyday. It is particularly beautiful around dusk when the light fades and blue hour blooms.
The lights of the buildings start to warm up the blue cold of evening.
I love the skyline around St Pauls Cathedral in particular and it features here, central and surrounded by the City.
I love the coppery gold that seems to slide out of the building above and slip down and across the blue Thames like precious liquid metal.
I love the warm and the cold colours side by side in a fauvist manner.
The cold and the warm, the vast exterior and the comfortable interior. This is a painting full of these contrasts; the dry buildings and the wet river Thames, the cold and warm, the light and descending dark. It is these juxtapositions that elevate this painting.
