ORIGINAL ARTWORK OF NIKOLAY MARINOV
This work is inspired by Bulgarian folklore and in particular by the Bulgarian folklore dances and typical clothing. In addition, the name of the work itself refers to a Bulgarian legend for Torbalan. The legend tells of an elderly man with a big bag who holds in its bag naughty children. Many parents have frightened their children in the past with this mythical being to make them more obedient. In general, this work has a great charge and combines ancient energy with modern performance.
This captivating series of sculptures portrays the dynamic essence of human expression through the medium of textured bronze. Each piece in the series is a frozen moment of a singular, continuous rotation, suggesting an ever-evolving dance that plays with light and shadow, revealing new facets and emotions with each angle.
The rough-hewn surface of the sculptures is reminiscent of the ancient artifacts of a lost civilization, imparting a sense of timeless wisdom and the enduring power of human communication through gesture. This texture not only adds a tactile allure but also invites the viewer to consider the raw emotion captured within the metal.
With limbs outstretched, the figure seems to reach beyond its physical confines, grasping for connection, or perhaps conveying an urgent message that transcends language and time. The absence of facial features amplifies this effect, turning the figure into everyman or everywoman, a vessel for the viewer’s own emotions and experiences.
The sculptures stand on simple, unadorned bases, ensuring that all attention is drawn to the expressive forms above. As light plays across the surface, shadows dance and the impression of movement is intensified, suggesting an internal life force within the static metal.
Ideal for collectors who seek art that moves and inspires, this series invites contemplation and personal interpretation, making it an exquisite addition to any space that values depth, movement, and the unspoken power of human connection. Each sculpture is not just an object to behold, but a conversation to be had, a story to be told, and an emotion to be felt.
