About Paola Imposimato

Biography

My artistic style is supported by a solid figurative base also coming from the study of Greco-Roman art, but I have completely interpreted it in a contemporary key, ranging from portraits to sacred art, from painting on canvas, wood, leather, ceramics and wax to wall paintings. I often use oil paints, acrylic temperas, enamels, pencils, ink and charcoal. The Italian Renaissance, German Expressionism and the cultural movement of French Symbolism have inspired me a lot, but I also admire masters like Salvador Dalì, Giorgio De Chirico, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Vincent Van Gogh. The quote in "The Idiot" by Fiodor Dostoevsky "Beauty will save the world" is a reference point for me, because I strongly feel the therapeutic, magical and mysterious content inherent in the logic of art. Loving art viscerally is for me something natural and, in any case, even in the absence of sharing this feeling, I wish to transmit a very precise message: Art creates smarter consciences so that they are less overwhelmed by flattening and uncritical habituation overcoming any form of homologation and manipulation. Art can have the power to give each of us back to ourselves.
