My garden is a real jungle. An orchid jungle. This attracts plenty of interesting critters, and slowly I’ve been collecting photos and sketches of some of them. Now I’ve started turning some of those images into paintings. I am mainly focusing on small paintings, black & white and just a hint of colour. The effect can be quite dramatic on this amazing parchment paper, this one a very textured page.
Painted on traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It is a thick parchment like paper, strong, yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect. The close up picture is to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there’s the work, or works, in progress.
