To the Sunrise
Creamy golden yellow,
Amber and chocolate brown,
Earthy purple hills,
Charcoal and deep maroon,
All the colours of the landscape.

Words and experience of seeing this beautiful sky in September over the North Dorset to Wiltshire chalk hills.
Original expressive watercolour on Saunders Waterford 300 gsm 160lb. I used wet on wet washes of colours for the background. I left this watercolour painting for ages and then decided to have another look at it and create more dramatic intensity of colour. I wet the paper and put layers of dark washes in the foreground. Tipped the paper to create the fringing detail of the hedge line against the sunrise sky. I found doing this process very satisfying and was finally pleased with the finished result.
