Original artwork description:

To the Purbeck hills, Dorset
A dancing sky,
Sunlight and cloud formations,
Muted and earthy landscape,
Marshy pools, yellow gorse and grasses,
Always beautiful.

Words and experiences of being here in winter.
Original impressionist watercolour on extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 425gsm 200lb.
I used a medium size Chinese hake to create the expressive sky, I remember that day as I was walking across Hartland moor. The light kept changing and so did the clouds. The magical colours over the terrain were so uplifting and it’s such a dramatic view of the isle of Purbeck which they call it mini Scotland.
I used a sable hair brush for the hills and markings of the trees / forest in the background. To create the foreground it was a build up of layers of wet on wet washes then dabbing, pressing and etching the paint off. Carving out the landscape with many colours using a five colour technique.

Materials used:

Extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 425gsm 200lb, Windsor and Newton watercolours, Chinese hake, sable hair brush, filbert,
