To the Lizard , South Cornwall
A chink of pale golden light over the sea,
Violet , silver and slate blue clouds,
Looking across this fertile landscape of bracken, gorse, oaks, heath and pastureland,
Bringing the view closer,
As I paint this beautiful view from Willow lodge, Laity at Christmas.
Words and thoughts of a special and unforgettable Christmas holiday 2024.
Original impressionist watercolour on rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 300 gsm 140lb. Wet on wet washes were applied with a Chinese hake for the sky , sea and landscape. I used a four colour technique and using my Chinese brushes I expressively painted the markings for the winter landscape. I pressed the paint on over dry to get the highlights of the yellow gorse bushes, dragged the brush up and downwards for the bracken and grasses. To finish off I etched out the paint with my nail . My inspiration was the view from where I was staying on a ridge looking across to the Lizard peninsular and the Gweek. I had to wait patiently for the fog to lift and then go for it.
