Original artwork description:

This piece is inspired by philosophy, in particular, Jung's views on enlightenment:

"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making darkness conscious."

I wanted to create a series that shows this philosophy in contrast to modern nihilism, and how it can create turmoil within a person.

This piece is part of a series with each subsequent piece showing further turmoil. I used pastels with the majority of it being blended, and then contrast that with harsh outlines and strokes.
