What is it?
This is a multimedia collage painting that continues upon my exploration of depicting a landscape that combines the digital world we inhabit.

Why did you create it?

I have continued using barcodes as for me it represents the digital landscape we find ourselves in. Barcodes represent digital information that is machine readable. They are used on products in supermarkets, as well as used to identify data about objects. The advancements in technology is blurring the lines between the physical world and digital world. From AI, to virtual reality, automation and robotics, to the amount of information accessible at a touch of a button. I created this painting to reflect upon this innovation and what the future holds. This painting is reminiscent of a landscape of sorts, but routed in the reality. It is a landscape to contemplate in, just like the era we find ourselves at this moment in time.

What materials and techniques were used?

This triptych painting of 4 is built up from layers from barcode paper cutouts that I assembled piece by piece onto the canvas. On top I then applied household white paint to the barcodes and masked off areas to create contrast. Next I poured acrylic paints with medium on top. After it dried I removed the masking tape and got to work hand painting the red gradient lines that helps to create the contrast. To complete this painting I then applied gloss varnish to the poured surface.

The finish is full of depth from the barcode paper cutouts to the oozing paints. There is a monochrome neutral movement to it. The light simmers off the glossy surface. The gradient red lines help captivate its energy and set the tone of atmosphere.
