This is a so-called narrative painting as it tells a story. I was painting the scene of holidaymakers enjoying the beach in Cadzand Bad, Netherlands on a perfect summer afternoon. When the family nearby started to pack all their belongings together and head off for their accommodation, the mother called to the little boy, whose name was Peter, that he should come. He was reluctant, of course, and in sympathy, I named my painting after him!
