Rolling Thunder clouds and Red Rain.
Woman (Earth) sheltering under White Lace.
Inspired in part by The Oracle of Change, The I'Ching*
The I'Ching wasn't uppermost in my mind when I began this painting (I always start work without a plan or any idea what the image might be) but as it progressed it was clear to me that this image was indeed Thunder/Earth.
I liked the idea that she sheltered under fine lace.
Painted on Indian handmade cotton rag paper.
It is a 12 x 17 inches, 210 gsm weight paper with a deckled edge; my favourite shades are muted blue, and grey; these colours form the background of the image.
This painting is available unframed.
I have created two CGIs photographs showing how the painting might look framed with* and without the deckled edge showing.
*If you prefer the deckled edge visible, please ask your framer to "float" the image to show-off the edge; then it can be surrounded with mat/mount board as usual. (Please ensure that any artwork is kept from touching the glass).
The painting will be wrapped in acid-free tissue, packed carefully and sent by Tracked Delivery.
*The I'Ching is a divination system of 'moving lines' comprising 64 Hexagrams, created from combinations of the eight Trigrams representing Heaven, Earth, Water, Wind, Thunder, Mountain, Lake and Wind.
This, image representing Thunder over Earth relates to Hexagram 16 (Enthusiasm).
I've long been a devotee of the I'Ching, "The Oracle of Change" since 1972 - in the late 1990s, I was thrilled to illustrate all 64 Hexagrams in ink and watercolour for a Colour Therapy Company.
watercolour, Khadi 210 gsm paper
