58cm x 58cm x 4cm Original abstract painting

This work is a hybrid of painting and relief sculpture, created from nine wooden squares arranged in grid formation.
With this work I wanted to explore the kind of feelings or atmospherics evoked by the relationships between the colours within. I was also interested in ideas of permutation and sequence in this piece, and the relationship between individual elements within a whole. The painting is strongly influenced by 20th century abstraction and minimalism.
