Precious little Venetian smalti and gold leaf glass mosaic framed in a box frame. Smalti is an Italian glass made specifically for mosaic art using traditional and secret recipes. I sometimes buy it cut into tesserae, other times in great pizza slabs like the ones in the picture. Then I have more scope to cut it into shapes I want. The 24 carat gold leaf glass mosaic is also made in Italy, where the thin gold leaf is sandwiched between two layers of glass, a very thin surface glass on top to protect the gold leaf, and a layer of glass of about 4 mm thick below. The colour of the gold and the smalti is just magical, it glows in a very special way very much like a deep sunset. The mosaic is approx. 10cm x10cm mounted very securely onto a creamy white card. The box frame is approx 23cm x 23cm and 4.5cm deep, a good quality black painted wood which will not warp. Hang on the wall or display on a shelf. Your Golden Birds will bring you joy forever!
