Original artwork description:

Thomasina had been haunted all her life by the thought that she wasn't enough. She was known as Thomas to her family, after her father: a nickname that seemed affectionate at first, but cruel once you knew her parents had longed for a boy, and she was what resulted from the fifth attempt. By the time she was five, the name was ironic. She avenged their tomboyish projections by obsessing over frills and chintz, Victoria sponges and pointy kitten heels far too delicate for her wide frame. After the age of sixteen, one thing Thomasina could never be called was boyish.

This portrait is part of my '100 heads' series: 100 small figurative sculptures of curious characters from my imagination.
