Much inspired by the poem “Thistles” by Nikolay Zabolotsky, the painting is a blend of expressionism and symbolism. The thistle itself is the dominant element, depicted as a large, almost menacing form that fills the canvas. The painting evokes a sense of both power and vulnerability. Bold brushstrokes and distorted forms, jagged, upward-reaching lines and sharp angles emphasize the thistle's prickly and aggressive nature.
