Original artwork description:

This was originally painted for an Art Prize but then transmuted into something else.
The painting compares my peaceful present in Wales with my not so peaceful past in Northern Ireland.
The painting tells a story of me lying with my dogs, Biddy and Mitzi, on Cefn Bryn, Gower Peninsula, in a peaceful present day revelry while my less peaceful past, growing up in the "Troubles" of Northern Ireland sails through my mind.
Northern Ireland is visually represented in different ways - the streaming down purple/blue sky represents the Northern Lights visible from Northern Ireland, the jacket with lime green lines is like an army jacket, there is an Orange marching band in the background, coming over the hill following the loud beat of a big Lambeg drum.
This is in the distance, where I come from but not where I am now.
I have found the place I have always been looking for, peace.

Materials used:

oil painting on linen canvas
