I live in Swansea, birthplace and hometown of the world famous poet Dylan Thomas. It is a strange town, a juxtaposition of a beautiful seaside and Swansea bay setting and post-war and quite ugly town planning.
The title of this painting is a play on the words of a Dylan Thomas quote describing his home town of Swansea “... an ugly, lovely town ... crawling, sprawling ... by the side of a long and splendid curving shore. This sea-town was my world.”
I changed the title around to reflect that it is the post war town planning that has made it ugly but that it is also lovely due to the friendly people who live here and in it's "splendid curving" location.
The painting itself shows a mural painting of Dylan Thomas, greeting visitors to Swansea as they exit Swansea Train station at night, in the frequent rainy drizzle.
