A twittering and cheeping flock of swirling starlings, gathering ready to roost in the reeds on a winters evening. I think there are thirty-three in this image but they do keep moving so it's really hard to count.
This is one of my favourite sights in nature and i'm lucky enough to live near to a huge starling roost in Somerset, UK. How could I resist the chance to carve my own flock out of lino?
I have hand burnished the lino print onto Somerset Satin paper in an edition of only 50, with every little starling different! The lino block has been hand carved from my original drawing, with all the white areas cut away, leaving the raised birds to pick up the ink from the roller.
