Original artwork description:

In my ongoing efforts to better understand and walk with my loved one in their mental health journey, I'm reading Dr. Aaron Beck's book, "Cognitive Therapy and the Emotional Disorders", which is a fascinating window into the workings of the mind. In the course of his long career, Dr. Beck has studied the full range of mental health challenges, some of which include anxiety, depression, eating disorders and cognitive distortions. He describes "automatic thoughts", which I express in this series of abstracts, entitled "Thinking Out Loud". I applaud our mental health professionals, who dedicate their lives to advance the care and well being of all of us, who wish to better understand the mystery and meanings of our own thoughts and feelings. This series of 11" x 14" mixed media abstracts combine watercolor, acrylic and oils on canvas, in an earthy palette of green, burnt sienna, and neutrals. A satin varnish has been applied for protection, and hanging hardware is already installed.

Materials used:

watercolor, acrylic & oil on canvas
