A work of deep contemplation. The subject of the portrait was a young woman from Nepal who had left her native country to come to live in Scotland. She was a bright and beautiful girl, always smiling. This portrait has caught another side to her personality. Maybe thinking of home, her family left behind or the future which was at that time fairly uncertain, even more so now.
The strong contrasts give this painting an emotional pull while the soft feminine curves and handsome features attract us to this mysterious beauty.
