Original artwork description:

The hills of Glencoe, Scotland, are indeed very old hills, and very familiar to me and much loved - in all their moods. They have been worn down and eroded by glaciers and by the weather and their ruggedness is typical of the Scottish landscape. This painting, inspired by a visit to the Glen in late winter, has a slightly abstract element since it only shows part of the whole landscape and focuses on the contrasts of different colours and textures. As the snow melts and fog forms at the top, the whiteness of the snow is contrasted against the rusty red of the winter bracken. The dark grey solidity of the fallen rocks in the foreground contasts with the airy lightness of the fog at the top of the hill. For me, there is also great beauty in a sombre landscape - it doesn't all have to be sunshine, meadows and flowers!

"These Old Hills" was painted on 300g rough Arches watercolour paper using Windsor and Newton watercolour paints and it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
