Based on the speech by American Fredrick Douglass, "If there's no struggle, there's no progress".

With art as in life we often make the greatest progress following times of struggle. These are the times of greatest growth. What we learn about ourselves through trying times, courage, strength, insight, are the very moments that lead to our success.

All the bumps and bends in the road, the roller coaster like journey that lead us to the brightness and glory of our best, most significant destinations. Portrayed in darker murky background colours with layers of texture. Making the bright moments stand out and come to the fore. Topped with a few sections of gold leaf to represent the glorious highs.

Warmth and layered with texture. Up close you can explore the different techniques employed to give diversity to the piece.

This one is 9 smaller burlap canvases joined together onto a backing frame with side painted to match the artwork.
